If you are looking forward to upgrading your HDTV and have been considering the jump towards UHDTV, now may be a good time to seriously consider the move.
Probably bowing to the slow take up rates for these high end models, Sony and Samsung have just announced that they will be cutting prices by $1000 for the 55″ UHDTVs and a whopping $1500 for the 65″ models. The Sony XBR-55X900A will now retail at $3998, while the 65-inch XBR-65X900A now sells for $5498. At the same time, to make the entry point even more affordable, Sony announced that their new offerings of UHDTVs will forgo external speakers resulting in $500 savings for both screen sizes. This is good news indeed, as most would not want to have audio play back on the tiny speakers and will have paired these high end TVs with a home theater receiver or sound bars.
Samsung is even more aggressive with their price cuts. The Samsung UN55F9000 now sells for $3497, while the 65″ UN65F900 goes for $4997 at Amazon as of today.
With prices dropping at this rate, buying a premium 4K UHDTV could be within reach of budget-conscious buyers sooner than expected.
