A lot of companies are focused on making the living room a more enjoyable place to enjoy content. Some manufacturers are coming up with gaming consoles that are packed with entertainment features while others are making digital media receivers and other home theater components that can connect to the local network so you can stream online from your favorite services or retrieve media from any other devices connected to the network. Setting up these components is the tedious part but Samsung is offering a smoother way if you are okay with replacing your existing TV. The Samsung UN60F7500 is basically a large TV that is capable of handling your streaming needs so you won’t have to add any extra components.
High-end Samsung TVs are always focused on elegant design and Samsung still has the touch today. The TV is pretty thin but the bezel is practically not existent measuring just a quarter of an inch. The frame has a nice metal finish so the TV has that premium feel as well. The quad stand is also worth mentioning because it keeps the massive 60-inch display in a stable position. The stand is also has a light rose gold finish for added elegance. You just have to find a wide surface to place this TV on. The UN60F7500 lacks the Clean Back Design that the F8000 models have but the still looks pretty minimal on the back.
The Samsung UN60F7500 doesn’t just have a beautiful LED panel. The panel is also specially designed to absorb more ambient light to eliminate reflections. Samsung calls this panel the Ultra Clear Panel and it means that you won’t have to worry about TV placement since the lights in your house or sunlight won’t get in the way. At the same time, the Ultra Clear Panel enhances the colors and contrast and deepens the blacks for a better overall picture. Internally, the Wide Color Enhancer Plus also makes the colors more vivid by simply expanding the range of colors. Combined with the fact that the display is edge-lit, the colors really blow out.
The UN60F7500 lacks the intelligent Precision Black Local Dimming technology present in the F8000 series but the Samsung UN60F7500 still has great contrast thanks to the Micro Dimming Pro feature. It is on the standard setting by default and it actually makes the pictures look more vibrant and detailed. It actually works well with the 3D functionality of this TV since the effect makes the 3D visuals look brighter. Switch on the AutoMotion Plus feature and you get a lot of depth as well. You can give the 3D performance a test run even if you don’t have 3D Blu-ray player or any 3D content by using the 3D converter. 3D looks like it is fading into obscurity but there are still plenty of good 3D movies and some camcorders allow you to make 3D videos.
Refresh rate is something that a lot of manufacturers like to boast about and that is why Samsung has to come up with some crazy terms like Clear Motion Rate 960 for the UN60F7500. But the truth is, the Samsung UN60F7500 still has the 240Hz refresh rate which is pretty impressive compared to the displays with 120Hz and 60Hz refresh rates. Basically, high-speed action scenes look a lot smoother without blurring.
Adding “Smart” capabilities to TVs is nothing new as Samsung has been doing this with their past TVs. But these features weren’t without their major flaws. A lot of people didn’t really find these features so useful because of the messy interface and sluggish menu performance. This why people still prefer using gaming consoles and other external devices and HTPCs for their networking needs. But the Samsung UN60F7500 addresses the issue by equipping it with a very fast quad-core processor along with a redesigned Smart Hub interface. Certain apps like the Web Browser which lets you go to any website you like from the TV is finally usable thanks to the faster processor.
The new interface is much friendlier and it resembles Samsung’s tablets so Android tablet owners can feel more at home. You can go to the Apps page and download any apps you like including social networking apps, apps for video streaming services and several others. There is also a special Social page that makes it easy to check the latest Twitter and Facebook updates. When you are in the mood to watch TV, you can check out the On TV page which is pretty much an interactive TV guide where you can check out the latest shows that are currently being broadcasted live. Online streaming is also accessible through the Movies and TV Shows page where you can check out content from Hulu, NetFlix and Samsung’s very own Samsung Media Hub. Finally, you can go to the Photos, Videos and Music page to stream content from any smartphones or other computers that are linked to the same network as the TV. Connecting to the network is easy because the TV has its own built-in Wi-Fi.
To make navigation a bit easier, Samsung offers a few additional ways to interact with the UN60F7500. The TV comes with a Smart Touch Remote which has very few buttons and a swipe pad which makes it easy to go to the page you like. Pressing the voice button enables the TV to accept voice commands through the remote’s built-in microphone. Once you have gotten the TV to recognize your voice, you can ask the TV natural questions like what movies are on and the TV will take you to the proper page. The top of the screen also a camera which serves as a motion controller so you can use your hands to control the controller. You can also use it with the Skype application to engage in video conversations.
The Samsung UN60F7500 is a lot like Samsung’s mobile products; they are bloated with tons of features to dazzle consumers. But the UN60F7500 actually has useful features backed with powerful internal specs. Picture quality and sound quality are spot on and it makes the $2,499 price a pretty good deal especially when compared to those 4K displays that have less features but superior picture quality.
