Samsung and Sony were the first to introduce sexy curved televisions earlier this year. Well now we know that LG and probably other manufacturers watching from the sidelines aren’t going to watch this game go by.
LG has just announced that it is ready to launch a stunning 105-inch curved Ultra HD TV (Model 105UB9) at next month’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at Las Vegas. If now one surprises with a bigger one for the next few weeks, this LG monster will be the largest anyone has ever produced.
The LG 105UB9 will have a resolution of 5120 x 2160 or 11 million pixels, well above the 4K and Ultra HD standards, with a 21:9 aspect ratio. As you can see from the press released picture below this is going to be a rather ‘long’ TV.
While Samsung and Sony have employed OLED technology for their curved TVs, LG has opted to go with Thin Film Transistor (TFT) pixel circuit technology to prevent color leakages and to ensure a wider viewing angle. It is said to be structural stronger and delivers uniform color and brightness across the huge screen surface. But the most important question is how much this digital real estate is going to cost. LG is not telling. Yet.
